100 Club News

SEPTEMBER DINNER

        September 9th (Thursday), 6:00 p.m.  Glenwood Springs Golf Club.  $16 per person

       

        Menu:  Fried Chicken and Bar – B – Q Ribs Buffet, with potato salad and baked beans, plus dessert.

       

        For Reservations: Your check made out to The 100 Club should reach Carolyn Kleban at 110 Shadowood La,, Carbondale 81623 NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 4TH.

 

OCTOBER DINNER EARLY NOTICE

        Please mark your calendar for dinner at Six89 on October 14th. A mouth-watering fried chicken dinner with all the “fixing”. We will need to have at least 40 people to have this dinner. More to follow in the next 100 Club News.      

 

SEPTEMBER HIKES 

LAKE CITY (9/6-8)  Arrive at your lodgings on your own schedule. Mike Larime is coordinating this trip. Please Let him know (preferably by email , mwlarime@comcast.net) if you are going and if so, where you are staying

CUBA GULCH (9/7)  Good trail with 400' rise in first mile, and 900' rise to ridge in last mile.

CARSON GHOST TOWN (9/8)  Hike follows 4WD road and rises 800' in first mile.  Those preferring a shorter hike with less vertical can drive 1 mile to higher starting point.

BOILER CREEK (9/20)  This is a switch with MAIN ELK CREEK/MANSFIELD DITCH to avoid hunting season parking.  Access is via narrow winding 4WD road with breath-taking overlooks.  Good trail through open country.

SEVEN SISTERS LAKES (9/22)  This is a switch with CASTLE PEAK.  Good trail to Lakes, with 1/2-mile overland to uppermost lake.

SUNLIGHT PEAK (9/27)  Hike follows switchback road to top of ridge and ends with overview of ski area in fall

colors. 

                ON UP VALLEY HIKES FROM NOW ON THE PICK UP POINT FOR UP VALLEYERS  WILL  SWITCH BACK TO THE WEST BASALT BUS STOP INSTEAD OF THE EMMA SCHOOL HOUSE

 

 HANGING LAKE WORK DAY 

        Join the Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers on either Saturday (9/18) or Sunday (9/19) to work on improvements to this popular trail.  Not only will you do a good deed, but you will also get to see the major construction work which has been going on this summer, and earn 6 hike miles.  To sign up, call 927-8241, or go online to www.rfov.org and click on VOLUNTEER SIGN UP under VOLUNTEER.  A Project Fact Sheet will be sent out ten days before the work day.

* Gerry Roehm will host the 9/27 tail gate party on his deck to celebrate his reaching the 1000 mile mark. He will grill burgers and brats. Attendees should bring the beverages, snacks, and maybe a salad or two. Gerry needs a head count by 9/24. 303-807-8535. Mungo69@comcast.net 

 

SEPTEMBER BICYCLING

        September 1 Change in venue. We will ride up the Colorado River Road from Dotsero to Sweetwater. Meet at No Name at 8:30 AM, or the parking area at the Dotsero exit at 9 AM. Lunch at the Brew Pub after.

        September 15 Dry Park Road Meet at Laramie’s 9:30 AM. Pot luck there after the ride.

        September 29 Copper Mtn to Breckenridge via Frisco and back. Car pool from No Name Rest Stop at 8 a.m. Lunch at Breckenridge Brew Pub

COMING THURSDAY DECEMBER 2

        It’s not too soon to be thinking about the Holiday Season. Mark your calendar for FUN, FOOD, and FESTIVITIES on Thursday , December 2, the FIRST THURSDAY IN THE MONTH. Note day change! Hotel Colorado is the host. There will be prizes and surprises. Dinner will be $25 per person tax and tip included. There will be more coming in the October newsletter.

 

NOTE OF APPRECIATION

        Thanks to everyone who came to the reception at the Rivers Restaurant. It was great to see so many old friends. (Not that anyone is “old”)
